Comet Lovejoy survived its close encounter with the Sun, taking its place among wonders of the southern skies. Seen here from Paranal Observatory in Chile, the comet's tails stretch far above the eastern horizon. They rise alongside the plane of our Milky Way galaxy. The tails span over 20 degrees.
