NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image from the HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows a Martian dust devil. It was spotted late in the northern Martian spring, tracking south and east across the Amazonis Planitia. The core of the whirling dust devil is about 30 meters in diameter. Its plume of lofted dust reaches more than 800 meters above the surface, blown eastward by a westerly breeze. These dust devils are common on Mars.
