COSMIC MESSAGE
The glare of Alpha Centauri, one of the brightest stars in Earth's night sky, dominates the left side of this southern skyscape. Alpha Centauri is a mere 4.3 light-years distant and actually consists of two component stars similar in size to the Sun. A third, much smaller and cooler member of the system, Proxima Centauri, lies outside this field of view. The telescopic scene also reveals other objects within the Milky Way's crowded galactic plane.
