Simeis 188 in Stars, Dust and Gas

NASA APOD · Dieter Willasch (Astro-Cabinet)
COSMIC MESSAGE

When stars form, it's a chaotic process. Simeis 188 is a star-forming region with a bright cloud arc called NGC 6559. It contains red hydrogen emission nebulae, blue dust reflection nebulae, and dark dust absorption nebulae. Massive stars form first, and their light and winds sculpt their birthplace before they explode.
