NASA APOD · Ken Crawford
COSMIC MESSAGE

spiral galaxy NGC 4565 is viewed edge-on from Earth. Known as the Needle Galaxy, it is a common target for northern sky telescopic tours in the constellation Coma Berenices. This image reveals the galaxy's bulging central core, cut by dust lanes that lace its thin galactic plane. Many other background galaxies are visible in the field of view.
