Coronal Rain on the Sun

It does rain on the Sun, but what falls is extremely hot plasma, not water. This image shows an example from mid-July 2012, after a solar eruption. Plasma in the nearby solar corona cooled and fell back, a phenomenon called coronal rain. Because they are electrically charged, the electrons, protons, and ions in the rain were channeled along the Sun's magnetic field lines.
