The MESSENGER spacecraft, which orbited Mercury from 2011 to 2015, has mapped the entire surface of the innermost planet for the first time. Earlier missions, like Mariner 10, only observed about half. This video compiles thousands of images to show Mercury's surprising crust in full detail. It has greatly expanded our understanding of this challenging world.
