The Ring Nebula, M57, is a famous celestial object in Lyra. Its classic ring shape is due to our perspective. Recent mapping of its 3D structure, using images like this one from Hubble, shows it's a dense, donut-like ring wrapped around a football-shaped cloud of gas. From Earth, we look down the long axis of the 'football,' seeing the ring face-on.
