A Super Moon's Halo

NASA APOD · Luis Argerich
COSMIC MESSAGE

This full moon, captured from Punta Piedras, Argentina, is a perigee moon, meaning it was at its closest point to Earth. This made it the year's brightest and largest full moon. The circular halo around it is created by moonlight interacting with six-sided water ice crystals in Earth's high clouds.
