The Lagoon Nebula, M8, is an active stellar nursery in Sagittarius, about 5,000 light-years away. Hot, young stars in the cluster NGC 6530 illuminate the surrounding gas and dust. This region of star formation is a popular target for telescopes, showing remarkable features in its glowing clouds.
