COSMIC MESSAGE
Sixteen years ago, Comet Hale-Bopp rounded the Sun, offering a dazzling spectacle in Earth's night sky. This view, recorded shortly after its 1997 perihelion passage, features its memorable tails. The whitish dust tail and blue ion tail are visible, with the ion tail extending well over ten degrees across the northern sky, fading near the double star clusters in Perseus.
