Crescent Moon Meets Evening Star
NASA APOD · Luis Argerich
COSMIC MESSAGE
On September 8, 2013, the slender crescent Moon met brilliant Venus in the evening sky. This close celestial pairing, known as a conjunction, was visible to skygazers around the world. From some locations in South America, the Moon actually passed in front of Venus in a lunar occultation. This two-frame mosaic, taken near Las Cañas, Uruguay, shows Venus just before and after being hidden by the Moon.
