The Unexpected Tails of Asteroid P5
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Asteroid P/2013 P5 is displaying not one, but six discernible tails. The Hubble Space Telescope captured these images two months ago, showing rapidly changing dust streams. Scientists are not sure why this main belt asteroid has multiple tails; a single impact would likely produce only one. Light pressure from the Sun is one possible explanation for this unusual phenomenon.
