COSMIC MESSAGE
These colorful rings around the Moon are a corona, formed when moonlight diffracts through thin clouds. Water droplets in the clouds scatter light of different wavelengths at different angles, creating the distinct colored rings. Lunar coronae are one of the few diffraction effects visible to the unaided eye.
