M44: The Beehive Cluster

COSMIC MESSAGE

M44, also known as the Praesepe or Beehive cluster, is one of the closest star clusters to our solar system, a mere 600 light-years away. Its stars are young, about 600 million years old. This open cluster spans about 15 light-years and holds around 1,000 stars. M44 and the Hyades cluster are thought to have formed together in the same molecular cloud.
