Ash and Lightning above an Icelandic Volcano
NASA APOD · Sigurur Stefnisson
COSMIC MESSAGE
In 2010, the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland erupted, creating a large ash plume. This second eruption, starting on April 14, melted a significant amount of a small glacier. The resulting interaction of magma and meltwater produced the fine, abrasive ash that drifted across populated areas.
