Massive Nearby Spiral Galaxy NGC 2841

NASA APOD · Robert Gendler
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 2841 is a massive spiral galaxy located 46 million light-years away in Ursa Major. This sharp view shows a striking yellow nucleus and galactic disk. Dust lanes, small pink star-forming regions, and young blue star clusters are embedded in its patchy, tightly wound spiral arms. This contrasts with many other spirals that have grand, sweeping arms and large star-forming regions.
