Is this one galaxy or two? It's two. The central, light-colored elliptical galaxy is much closer than the blue and red-colored spiral galaxy surrounding it. This rare phenomenon occurs when near and far galaxies are perfectly aligned. The gravity of the closer galaxy then bends the light from the farther one, creating this striking lens effect.
