Arp 81 is a pair of strongly distorted galaxies, NGC 6622 and NGC 6621, as they appeared about 100 million years after a close encounter. Their mutual gravitational interaction caused twisted streams of gas and dust. This color composite shows massive star formation and a tidal tail stretching for 200,000 light-years. The encounter created a chaotic cosmic wreckage.
