Lyrids in Southern Skies

NASA APOD · Yuri Beletsky
COSMIC MESSAGE

Earth's annual Lyrid meteor shower peaked before dawn on April 22nd, as our planet passed through dust from Comet Thatcher. Even in the dry, dark Atacama Desert in Chile, the last quarter Moon made the sky bright, washing out fainter meteors. However, brighter Lyrids still put on a show. This composite image captures meteors streaming away from the shower's radiant.
