Puppis A is a supernova remnant, the debris from a massive star's explosion, about 7,000 light-years away. This false-color image, combining X-ray data from Chandra and XMM/Newton with infrared from Spitzer, shows its complex, 180 light-year wide expansion. The blue filaments are gas heated by the blast.
