Zodiacal Light before Dawn

NASA APOD · Yuri Beletsky
COSMIC MESSAGE

Sunrise was still hours away when this image was taken from Chile's Atacama desert, but the sky was already bright. The conical glow stretching high into the dark, starry sky is zodiacal light, sunlight scattered by dust along the solar system's ecliptic plane. It's also known as the "false dawn." Bright star Aldebaran and the Pleiades star cluster are visible near the center.
