Aurora over Maine
NASA APOD · Jeremy P. Gray
COSMIC MESSAGE
This aurora over Maine was caused by active sunspot region 2158, which unleashed a series of flares and plasma ejections from the Sun. Two Coronal Mass Ejections impacted Earth's magnetosphere, creating the most intense geomagnetic storm of the year. The dramatic effects of these plasma clouds created a stunning display in the night sky.
