The Galactic Core in Infrared
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes combined their efforts to survey the center of our Milky Way Galaxy in unprecedented detail using infrared light. Infrared is useful for probing this region because visible light is obscured by dust. This image, spanning 300 by 115 light-years, combines over 2,000 images taken by Hubble's NICMOS in 2008.
