Two hours before its closest approach to Neptune in 1989, Voyager 2 captured this image. Long, light-colored cirrus-type clouds are visible high in Neptune's atmosphere, with their shadows cast on lower cloud decks. Neptune's blue color comes from atmospheric methane.
