Carina Nebula Dust Pillar

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This cosmic pillar of gas and dust, nearly two light-years wide, lies within the Carina Nebula, about 7,500 light-years away. Its convoluted outlines are shaped by the winds and radiation of the nebula's young, hot, massive stars. The pillar's interior is a home for stars in the process of formation. An infrared view shows it is dominated by these forming stars.
