The Dark River to Antares

The Dark River is a dark cloud connecting the Pipe Nebula to the colorful region near the bright star Antares. Its murky appearance comes from dust obscuring background starlight, though it's mostly hydrogen and molecular gas. Antares, a red supergiant, creates a yellowish reflection nebula. Above it, the double star Rho Ophiuchi is embedded in another colorful cloud.
