The First Rocket Launch from Cape Canaveral
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
In July 1950, a new era of spaceflight began with the launch of the Bumper V-2 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida. This ambitious two-stage rocket combined a V-2 missile with a WAC Corporal rocket. The upper stage reached a then-record altitude of almost 400 kilometers, higher than even Space Shuttles flew.
