NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

In December 1972, Apollo 17 astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt spent 75 hours in the Taurus-Littrow valley on the Moon. This image, taken by Cernan, shows Schmitt with the lunar rover at the edge of Shorty Crater. It was near this spot that Schmitt, a geologist, discovered orange lunar soil. Their colleague, Ronald Evans, orbited overhead.
