ISS Double Transit

NASA APOD · Hartwig Luethen
COSMIC MESSAGE

This composite image shows the International Space Station transiting the Sun twice in consecutive orbits. Captured from Schmalenbeck, Germany, on August 22, the ISS created intersecting shadow paths only about 7 kilometers wide. Each transit across the solar disk lasted less than a second. The two transits were separated by about 90 minutes, which is the space station's orbital period.
