Unraveling NGC 3169

COSMIC MESSAGE

Spiral galaxy NGC 3169, about 70 million light-years away, appears to be unraveling. Its spiral arms are distorted into sweeping tidal tails as it interacts gravitationally with neighboring NGC 3166. This gravitational dance is a common occurrence for galaxies in the local universe.
