Comet Catalina Emerges

NASA APOD · Fritz Helmut Hemmerich
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet Catalina, a giant snowball from the outer Solar System, made its closest approach to Earth in January 2016. It rounded the Sun in late 2015 and began its journey back out. Morning observers in the northern hemisphere got their best view of the comet, which sported both dust and ion tails.
