The sky on
your birthday.
“The Lagoon Nebula in Hydrogen, Sulfur, and Oxygen” is copyrighted by John Nemcik. NASA has permission to show it and we don't, so it isn't on this card.
See it on NASA's siteThe majestic Lagoon Nebula, also known as M8, is a region of hot gas and a nursery for many young stars. It spans 100 light-years across and is about 5,000 light-years distant in the constellation Sagittarius. The open cluster NGC 6530, which formed in the nebula only a few million years ago, contains many bright stars. The nebula gets its name from the dark lane of dust that runs through it.
