Dust of the Orion Nebula
NASA APOD · Raul Villaverde Fraile
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Orion Nebula, about 1,600 light years away, is a hotbed of star formation. This image highlights the intricate filaments of dust that surround the nebula. This dust, opaque to visible light, is created in the outer atmospheres of massive cool stars and expelled into space. Embedded within the nebula are young star clusters like the Trapezium, obscured by these brown dust clouds.
