Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our Sun, is the nearest member of the Alpha Centauri system. Light takes only 4.24 years to reach us from this small red star. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of Proxima Centauri, which is so faint it was only discovered in 1915. Scientists are currently searching for planets orbiting Proxima Centauri.
