COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 4631, the Whale Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy 25 million light-years away in Canes Venatici. Seen edge-on, it is similar in size to the Milky Way. Its distorted wedge shape gives it its popular moniker. The galaxy's small, bright elliptical companion, NGC 4627, lies just above its dusty yellowish core.
