The W in Cassiopeia

NASA APOD · Rogelio Bernal Andreo
COSMIC MESSAGE

The W-shaped pattern of five bright stars in the northern constellation Cassiopeia is prominent in this wide mosaic. The scene spans about 15 degrees, revealing dark clouds, bright nebulae, and star clusters along the Milky Way. Cassiopeia's alpha star, Shedar, is a standout; this yellowish giant is over 40 times the Sun's diameter and shines brightly from 230 light years away.
