Asperatus Clouds Over New Zealand

NASA APOD · Witta Priester
COSMIC MESSAGE

These unusual clouds, informally known as Undulatus asperatus, appeared over New Zealand. Their cause is not fully understood, but they are relatively unstudied and might be a new cloud type. Unlike most low clouds, which have flat bottoms, asperatus clouds show significant vertical structure underneath.
