COSMIC MESSAGE
These three bright nebulae are stellar nurseries in Sagittarius, about 5,000 light-years away. M8, the Lagoon Nebula, is a large star-forming region left of center. Colorful M20, the Trifid Nebula, is near the bottom of the frame. NGC 6559 is to the right of M8, separated by dark dust lanes. Charles Messier cataloged M8 and M20 in the 18th century.
