COSMIC MESSAGE
China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, or FAST, sits in a natural basin in Guizhou province. Nicknamed Tianyan, or the Eye of Heaven, this radio telescope began testing in September. Its enormous dish is made of 4,450 individual triangular panels, designed to point and focus. FAST is a powerful new tool for exploring the universe.
