Lynds Dark Nebula 1251

NASA APOD · Lynn Hilborn
COSMIC MESSAGE

Stars are forming in Lynds Dark Nebula 1251, a dusty molecular cloud about 1,000 light-years away. This region, part of the Cepheus flare, drifts above the plane of our Milky Way galaxy. The reddish glow from scattered Herbig-Haro objects in the image are energetic shocks and outflows from newborn stars.
