Sharpless 308: Star Bubble

COSMIC MESSAGE

This cosmic bubble, cataloged as Sharpless 2-308, was blown by fast winds from a hot, massive star. It lies about 5,200 light-years away in Canis Major and spans 60 light-years in diameter. The bright star near the center of the nebula is a Wolf-Rayet star, which is over 20 times the mass of the Sun.
