Daphnis the Wavemaker

Saturn's moon Daphnis, only about 8 kilometers across, orbits within the planet's Keeler gap. As it moves, its weak gravity creates waves in the ring material at the gap's edges. The Cassini spacecraft captured this close-up view, showing the 42-kilometer wide gap foreshortened by the viewing angle. This interaction demonstrates the subtle gravitational dance within Saturn's ring system.
