Milky Way with Airglow Australis

NASA APOD · Yuri Beletsky
COSMIC MESSAGE

This panoramic skyscape, captured after sunset in Chile, features an exceptionally intense airglow, a luminous phenomenon similar to aurorae. The scene is also filled with stars, clusters, and nebulae along the southern Milky Way, including the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds. The airglow, due to chemiluminescence, often appears with a greenish tinge to sensitive digital cameras.
