Like our Moon, Venus goes through phases as it orbits the Sun. This composite of telescopic images shows the steady changes in Venus's appearance from December 2016 to March 2017. As Venus approached Earth, it appeared larger but narrowed to a thin crescent, a result of its interior orbit between Earth and the Sun.
