King of Wings Hoodoo under the Milky Way

NASA APOD · Wayne Pinkston (LightCrafter Photography)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The King of Wings is a unique rock formation, or hoodoo, located in New Mexico. Hoodoos form when a layer of hard rock protects softer rock beneath it from erosion. This particular hoodoo, while not massive, creates a surreal silhouette under the Milky Way. Its capstone rock overhangs only a few meters.
