Density Waves in Saturn's Rings from Cassini
Saturn's immense ring system, imaged by the Cassini spacecraft. The intricate patterns, like the one shown here, are often caused by density waves. These waves are created when a small moon systematically perturbs the orbits of ring particles, causing them to bunch up and create these beautiful geometric structures. Cassini spent 13 years orbiting Saturn, providing unprecedented detail of its rings.
