NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Giant active region AR2673, nearly out of view on the Sun's western edge, erupted with an intense solar flare and a large coronal mass ejection on September 10. This extreme ultraviolet image from the Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the flare on the right. It was the fourth X-class flare from AR2673 that month. The associated coronal mass ejection later collided with Earth's magnetosphere.
