Clouds of Andromeda

NASA APOD · Daniel López / IAC
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Andromeda galaxy, M31, is the nearest large spiral galaxy to us. This mosaic of broad and narrow-band image data reveals faint reddish clouds of glowing ionized hydrogen. These clouds are unfamiliar features in typical images of Andromeda, which usually show its dark dust lanes, yellowish core, and blue star-forming arms.
