Rocket Plume Shadow Points to the Moon

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The shadow of a space shuttle launch plume can point toward the Moon. This alignment happened in early 2001 during an Atlantis launch, when the Sun, Earth, Moon, and rocket were all positioned correctly. For a long shadow, the launch must be near sunrise or sunset. During a Full Moon, the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the sky, creating this photographic coincidence just after sunset.
